Frequently Ask Questions

I have tried coaching before, and it didn’t work—How do I know it will work this time?

A successful coaching relationship depends on a couple of important factors. First, it needs to be a good match based on trust. That is why that initial exploration between coach and the potential client is so important. Secondly, it is important to check out the credential of the coach. It is one thing to put a shingle out and another to be trained and certified. Do your homework. Third, ask the coach about his or her ideal client; this will help you determine if it is a good match.

How does coaching work?

Coaching is a transformative, client-centric relationship. The client sets the agenda, and the coach asks powerful questions that empower the client to think more deeply and to come up with solutions and action steps to move themselves and their business forward. Through coaching, clients identify and break through barriers that may be hindering greater success and growth.

How do I know if I need a coach?

Everyone needs a coach! What I mean by that if you are someone who wants to close the gap between where you are and where you want to be, and to do it faster than you thought possible, then finding the right coach is for you. Closing the gap from where I am to where I want to be is what my coach does for me.

What does a credential mean?

A credential means three important things. It means the coach is trained and must continue to learn and grow with continuing education to maintain the credential. It means the coach has experience. And it means the coach functions within a set of professional ethics and is held accountable to maintain those ethics.

What does ACC stand for?

ACC means Associate Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation (ICF https://coachfederation.org/). In my opinion, ICF is the gold standard in accrediting bodies. To receive an ACC certification, one must complete a minimum of 100 hours of coaching experience, the Coaching Knowledge Assessment and an ICF Accredited Coach Training Program.

Is coaching tax deductible?

Coaching is a business expense and is tax-deductible.

How will I know if the coaching is working?

A professional coach will do a periodic evaluation of the coaching relationship to make sure there is the kind of change and growth the client is seeking. A good coach will want to hear some specifics in the evaluation, not just a general “it's good.”
